Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, 2025, Past Present Future
A contemporary retelling of the Soviet design aesthetic. Porcelain set inspired by works of Sándor Mikó.
Although not as well known globally as his peers on the other side of the iron curtain, Sándor Mikó was truly an innovator of contemporary design in Hungary and the neighbouring countries.
Today his work still stands relevant, but a fresh eye’s reimagination of his work is on the way. This is the story of Sán, a contemporary ceramic set
The connection is there. The deep cuts and collection of sharp edges and smooth surfaces is reminiscent of the work of the design master. Primarily influenced by Sándor’s work they hold as well the touch of Maria, the little vertical line running down their shape like the scar line running at the back of her neck. They stay strong, appealing to the contemporary consumer and at the same time telling the collective story of so many other eastern european countries and their design story. A reflection of the past with an outlook towards the future. Stackable cups and plates like the years that continue to pile up from one design era to another.
Sán
Was inspired by the candelsticks, glassware and lamps designed by Sándor Mikó
Was made using slip casting porcelain and primarily clear glazes with possibility for colour incorporation
Is surprisingly comfortable to hold and use despite it’s stright and non organic looking edges
Can be used in any setting from home, through office/ studio to a cafe. It is trully versitile
Thank you to all the amazing people I got to share this time with.
